Organic Baby Food - How to Make it Affordable - Family - Babies

Do you wish you could afford to serve only Organic Baby Food? You know the benefits of feeding your baby Organics but just can't resist the prices on regular produce?

It's OK - Don't Stress & definitely don't run to the canned food aisle yet!

Before you turn your back on yourself & your baby by going back to regular foods, read on for some tips which are an excerpt from the new book "Organic Baby Food: The Buyer's Guide" on saving money when it comes to Organic food for your baby.

1. Make Your Own Homemade Organic Baby Food.

A really easy way to save money is to Make it yourself. You need to set aside about 1 hour of planning & preparing per week at the beginning and less once you have your own systems down pat.

Required equipment:- Blender or Food Processor- Ice Trays (preferably with lids)- Organic Fruits & Vegetables (naturally soft things like banana or avocado are easiest to prepare)- Organic Baby Food Recipes (or regular recipes and just use Organic ingredients)

2. Be a Bargain Hunter for Organic Baby Food

Shop around at your local greengrocer & the big supermarkets, keep your eye out for produce that is on special and in season. This makes it much better price. Buy in bulk and make & freeze ahead of time when prices are good.

If you are buying ready made baby food, the same goes, look for coupons & weekly specials and remember to stock up when it's on special with as much as will keep.

3. Share with a friend or neighbour.

Buy in bulk and share with your neighbors and friends. How often have you bought a bag of organic fruit only to have it go bad before you've had a chance to eat it all?

You don't need a large quantity of food to make organic baby food. A little fruit & vegetable can go far when you make and store it.Ask your fiend or neighbor to buy some items and you buy others & then share the excess. this minimizes waste, saves you money & gives your baby more variety!

If buying pre-prepared organic baby food, buy it in large quantaties online to get discounts and save on shipping and trade with a friend.

4. Go to the Farmer's Market.

Does your town or one nearby have a local farmer's market? Go along to this, not only will you enjoy the outdoors time but you may be able to save a lot compared to the grocery stores. Sometimes up to 50% or more!

Look to see if they are certified organic, however keep in mind that many smaller farmers may very well be organic but because of the cost have not yet been 'certified organic'. Speak to the farmer and ask them questions about why they are not certified (be polite so as not to offend them but just keep that in mind. Locally grown and in season foods are the cheapers & best tasting!

5. Start your own Vegetable Garden.

Buying local produce is cheapest, but just think how much money you would save if herbs, fruits, berries, tomatoes, peppers, carrots, peaches & peas grew in your own back garden?

This will of course need a bit of time and energy put in on your behalf but the experience of your own fresh produce is well worth it! and if you have older children they will love & learn so much from it.

Remember to share the excess though, i know at my place we have quite a few citrus trees and they all come into season at once, there is mcuh more available then we can eat on our own so share with friends, family, neighbors, local sporting teams or you could even put them out on the kerb in bags saying $1- or Free.

There are many many savings to be made on organic food for your baby, if you able & willing to set aside a little bit of time each week & change your shopping route, you can get massive savings. and who knows, you may end up finding that you actually save money using these tips than on buying cheaper, inferior un-organic baby food.
